Preferential and Preferential-discriminative Consequence relations

چکیده

The theory of preferential consequence relations, where copies of valuations (or states labeled by valuations) serve as the terms of the preference relation, has been investigated extensively in the classical context. The first purpose of the present paper is to extend the theory to certain three/four-valued contexts, well-known as the paraconsistent logics J3 and FOUR. We give characterizations of several families of preferential consequence relations in these two contexts. Our second and main purpose is to investigate a qualified version of preferential consequence, which we call preferential-discriminative consequence. This is defined to hold between a set of formulas Γ and formula α iff Γ |∼ α but Γ 6|∼ ¬α, where |∼ is the plain relation. We provide characterizations of several families of such relations for all of the classical, three, and four-valued contexts.

Preferential and Preferential-discriminative Consequence

The present paper investigates consequence relations that are both paraconsistent and plausible (generally nonmonotonic too). More precisely, we lay the focus on preferential consequence relations, i.e. those relations that can be defined by a binary preference relation on states labelled by valuations (such as in Non-monotonic Reasoning). The first purpose of the paper is to provide characteri...

A Formula-Preferential Base for Paraconsistent and Plausible Reasoning Systems

We provide a general framework for constructing natural consequence relations for paraconsistent and plausible nonmonotonic reasoning. The framework is based on preferential systems whose preferences are based on the satisfaction of formulas in models. We show that these natural preferential systems that were originally designed for paraconsistent reasoning fulfill a key condition (stopperednes...

Reasoning with Modularly Pointwise Preferential Relations

We introduce a family of preferential consequence relations, deened by a simple and natural many-valued semantics. These relations share many desirable properties for common-sense reasoning, such as paraconsistency

Pivotal and Pivotal-discriminative Consequence Relations

In the present paper, we investigate consequence relations that are both paraconsistent and plausible (but still monotonic). More precisely, we put the focus on pivotal consequence relations, i.e. those relations that can be defined by a pivot (in the style of e.g. D. Makinson). A pivot is a fixed subset of valuations which are considered to be the important ones in the absolute sense. We worke...

Concept Model Semantics for DL Preferential Reasoning

The preferential and rational consequence relations first studied by Lehmann and colleagues play a central role in non-monotonic reasoning, not least because they provide the foundation for the determination of the important notion of rational closure. Although they can be applied directly to a large variety of logics, these constructions suffer from the limitation that they are largely proposi...
